10-acre starter plan₹ INRMobile friendly

Land area converter

Convert acres, hectares, cents and square feet.

Farm profile

Enter details to use as a planning reference.

For precise crop and nutrient advice, soil-test results, district, sowing month and water source matter. This profile does not automatically prescribe fertilizer.

Area split planner

Allocate acreage to different crops. The total should not exceed your farm area.

Seed quantity estimator

Uses a seed rate you enter from the package or local recommendation.

Fertilizer quantity estimator

Enter a soil-test or agriculture-officer recommendation in kg/acre. The calculator scales it to your area.

Do not use a generic fertilizer rate as a prescription. Nutrient needs vary by crop, soil test, product grade and application method.

Irrigation water calculator

1 mm of water over 1 acre is approximately 4,047 litres.

This is a volume estimate, not a crop-water requirement. Actual irrigation scheduling depends on crop stage, soil, rainfall, temperature and system efficiency.

Rainfall-to-water volume

Estimate rain collected over a field area.

Yield estimate

Use your expected or historical yield; results are scenarios, not a guarantee.

Farm expense & profit

Enter whole-farm costs and expected sales to estimate net return.

Pesticide / foliar spray dilution

For a label-approved dose expressed as ml or grams per litre. Always follow the exact product label and local guidance.

Never mix products unless the label permits it. Wear label-required protective equipment; keep people, livestock and water sources protected. Do not use this tool to choose a dose.

Percent solution calculator

For a label or extension recommendation that specifies percent weight/volume (w/v).

For w/v, 1% means 1 g per 100 ml final solution. This does not apply to every product formulation; confirm units on the label.

Indicative lower-water crop ideas

For a farm with limited irrigation in Tamil Nadu, these are options to discuss with the local agriculture extension officer. Soil, district, season, variety, market access and recent rainfall change the best choice.

Millets / sorghum

Often considered for dryland conditions; select a locally recommended variety and sowing window.

Black gram / green gram

Pulses can suit short-duration rotations and generally need less water than rice; avoid waterlogging.

Cowpea / horse gram

Potential dryland pulse options depending on local climate, soil and market demand.

Sesame (gingelly)

An oilseed option in suitable rainfed seasons; sensitive to waterlogging and poor establishment.

Pearl millet

May suit some low-rainfall environments; check local variety and sowing recommendations.

Groundnut

Can be suitable in certain soils and seasons but requires moisture at critical growth stages.

TNAU's dryland guidance describes pulses as comparatively low-water crops and its drought crop-pattern guidance includes millets, pulses and sesame in some severe-drought scenarios. This is not a district-specific recommendation. See TNAU dryland pulses guidance and TNAU drought crop patterns.

Quick 10-acre checklist

  • Get a soil test before deciding fertilizer and micronutrients.
  • Keep crop selection aligned with the local season and expected rainfall.
  • Consider splitting acreage across crops to reduce single-crop risk, if agronomically suitable.
  • Use mulching, field bunds and efficient irrigation where practical.
  • Check current local market prices and input labels before spending.

How to use this tool

FarmSmart is an estimation tool, not an agronomic prescription.
